Italians are all about food and wine. They live for it and the social meeting surrounding it. Walk in to any Italian bar in the morning or at lunch time. What do you see? Many Italians having a coffee and a roll or a beer and a Panini talking with each other and enjoying life. They typically stand and eat (sitting at a table usually costs more). They are socializing while enjoying their food. Coffee is really important to them as is wine.
For dinner pick an “al fresco” restaurant and sit outside. Order your meal and local wine by 1/2 or full liter pitcher. Sip the wine and enjoy its flavor. Think about how it was made with love. Taste your food. Close your eyes. What do you taste? Enjoy the flavors slowly. Look at the people around you. What are they doing? Observe and learn. Now talk with those people with you. Are they enjoying the food and wine? You are now in the “Italian Zone”!
After dinner walk the streets and enjoy the smells and sights. Don’t forget to stop for a gelato. Try different flavors. Most shops will let you try a few flavors. My favorite is nocciole (hazelnut all ground up in the gelato). How do you feel? Enjoy your trip not just as a tourist but as an Italian would. This is romantic!!!!
