Italian Food by Region

In America we have plenty of Italian restaurants. Most of the food we call Italian is from Naples. It has also been highly modified from the original recipes. Americans like creamy cheesy sauces more than most Italians do (like Alfredo). Each area of Italy was an independent country before the unification of Italy. They each had their own cooking styles, food and wine. Use this link to find what foods come from each area of Italy. Italian food is simple fresh ingredients that bring joy and pleasure. Enjoy this food with the local wines. Try different foods in each region. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TRY SOMETHING YOU ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH! Soon you will know your favorite dishes by each region you visit.
