What to Eat and not Eat in Italy

So you are finally going to Italy! Where do you eat? What do you order? How do you blend in so you don’t look like a tourist? I have several BLOGs on the differences of places to eat in Italy (Ristorante, Trattoria, Pizza Bar, etc.). You are in a foreign country with different customs. You want to fit in and enjoy food their way. You may be Italian-American but not understand the customs in the old country. Italian restaurants here have cheesy sauces like Alfredo that are NOT popular with Italians in Italy. You will find them in tourist restaurants but I don’t recommend these at all.

Avoid hamburgers and hot dogs. You can eat all you want when you get home. The Never Ending Voyage wrote a BLOG called “Do’s and Don’ts of Eating in Italy”. This is an excellent primer on what to do and not to do in Italy. It will make you fit in better and enjoy your trip more! Remember to order the local wine which will come in a glass container not a bottle. This is excellent local made wine and usually very inexpensive.
