Just 24 miles south of Salerno is a town called Paestum. It looks like you are in ancient Greece. In a way you are. The story goes that the first-born son in Greece got property to build in Greece but the second born son got property in southern Italy. This area of Italy was populated by the Greeks. Paestum is a preserved area of what that life was like.
If you have time drive to Paestum (about 1 hour) and walk around the grounds. See all the monuments. For a short time you will be back in ancient Greece. This city was built around 600 BC.
The drive from Salerno to Paestum will bring you into Campagnia’s Bufala Mozzarella territory. Here you can buy buffalo mozzarella. It is a creamier version of the famous Italian cheese.
