How to Find Reasonably Priced Hotels in Italy

Next to airfare, hotels will be your biggest cost. If your staying for an extended period of time, they may be the biggest cost of the trip. You first have to decide on:

  • Is it a special occasion like a honeymoon where you want an expensive hotel with nice amenities and views.
  • Are you independently wealthy and the price is of no concern
  • Are you visiting Italy to see the country, the people, etc. In this case you will only be sleeping in your hotel room. The small Italian hotels will work fine and give you more of a sense of being in Italy.

Hotels, like anywhere, change price seasonally and as they become more popular. Shop and see what the prices are. DO NOT PAY EXTRA for breakfast! Breakfast in Italy, as the Italians do it, is the cheapest and easiest meal. Go to the nearest bar (they are everywhere) and order an espresso, cappuccino, latte or coffee Americano and a sweet roll. This will cost you 2 Euros outside the big cities and maybe 5 Euros in the cities. Italians usually choose a cornetto. This is a small roll that can be plain, filled with chocolate, jam or cream.

What ever you choose, enjoy Italy. Do not try to do too much. Be an Italian while you are there. You do not need Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and eggs! Eat like the Italians which is so much more healthy for you.

Italy and Health

Italy has one of the world’s most efficient healthcare systems. The World Health Organization  rates countries on their over all health. Italy’s healthcare system focuses on exercise, happiness and healthy food rather than drugs. The people of this country eat well and eat fresh organic produce that is grown or farmed near their own home. Fruit is seldom shipped but picked locally at the height of freshness and nutrients. It tastes better and is healthier for you.

We should take a lesson on this from Italy. Not only is it a country on everyone bucket list but it gives us a great example how to live a happy and healthy life.

La Passeggiata

La passeggiata is the Italian walk. Italians eat well and stay healthy in many ways:

  • They eat organic natural foods
  • They cook food correctly
  • They eat fruits and vegetables
  • They exercise via walks each day

Walking is one of the best exercises you can do. Humans were explorers and walked a lot throughout their history. Modern humans tend to sit in cars, in front of computers and watching TV. Get up with your family and friends and walk. Walking each day ensures you can still walk as you age!

In Italy you can see people strolling around town after lunch or in the evening as the sun sets. It helps digestion, it brings the family together and its healthy. Everyone does it. It is not only healthy but extremely social. Italians love to see other people and be seen by people. What a great way to meet people in your town. You stroll and stay in touch with each other. You don’t need Facebook to do this in Italy!
