Locorotondo, Italy

Locorotondo is a wonderful white city in Puglia, Italy. It is located down near the heel of the boot on the Adriatic Sea. In this entire area you can see Trulli homes (dome-shaped homes). Most people think of Alberobello for Trulli homes but they are located all over this area of Puglia. Other great cities in this area are Cisternino, Ostuni and Polignano a Mare (home of the Cave restaurant).

These cities are mostly white walls with beautiful flowers to add colors. They are unique places to visit. Each town is small and can be seen in a half to full day. Stop in bars and restaurants and enjoy the local flavors.

Come walk with us around Locorotondo in the video below. This is Dolce far niente!

Grotta Palazzese Cave Restaurant in Italy

Grotta Palazzesse is a famous cave restaurant in Polignano a Mare on the Adriatic sea. This is the most romantic place in the world to have a meal with someone you love. The views are magnificent. You will remember this for the rest of your life.

The restaurant is:

  • Expensive
  • The views are spectacular
  • The experience is a once in a life time moment
  • It is a very romantic place

We spent a morning touring the old center of Polignano a Mare and then had lunch in this fabulous restaurant. We were so lucky to get a table at the edge overlooking the sea. You feel fabulous as you sit at your table sipping a glass of good wine. As you enjoy your wine, you look down to the sea and see boats below you entering and exiting the cave.

Come join us in this great restaurant and see the views we saw. If you are lucky enough to be in this area of Puglia, make a reservation here and experience it yourself.

Alberobello, Puglia, Italy

Alberobello is the best known and most touristy of the Trulli home cities. There is a large section that consists only of Trulli homes. The city is divided into two parts: 1) the main part of the city with its white buildings and the cathedral and 2) the Trulli section. The city is walkable as is the Trulli area. The Trulli area consists of small narrow streets that are pedestrian and moped only. This is a fairytale land worth spending time in.

Come see this enchanted city and walk with us through the Trulli homes. If you enjoy these VLOGs, please like it on YouTube and subscribe.

Ostuni, Italy

Ostuni is another small city in Puglia Italy near Cisternino. It is down on the heel of the boot near the Adriatic Sea. These are great cities to walk around and explore. Watch the Youtube video below and come walk with us through though wonderful town. Each Monday we will visit another town on my VLOG. Most will be small mountain towns or seaside resorts but a few will be large famous Italian cities.

These small cities are easily reached by car. Parking is easy and free in most but some have pay machines. You simply look at the machine to see the cost and time covered. Put enough coins in to cover your desired time and press the green button. A ticket is printed and you place it on your dash-board.

The best part of being in these small cities is to become part of Italian life:

  1. Eat the local food
  2. Drink the local wines
  3. Walk like the Italians do (you don’t need a gym in Italy)
  4. When you sit to eat, observe the Italian life around you
  5. Say Buon Giorno or Buona Sera to people you pass on the streets
  6. Speak to as many local people as possible
  7. Enjoy your time, be romantic and never be on a time-table. Be spontaneous

If you like this series of VLOGs, Press the YouTube button on the video below and like it and subscribe to my channel. I hope you enjoy our small walk.

Truilly a unique place!

Italy Magazine says Trulli is a very unique place to visit. Trulli is in the southern part of Italy in the Puglia region. The magazine says, “Dotted across the landscape, alone or in clusters, with one cone or even a dozen, they look like miniature rustic fairytale castles – Asterix meets Disney.” Just look at the homes in the picture. They have been described as Italy’s farm sheds. Isn’t this a place you would love to visit? What a romantic place to spend time together.

Building codes here enforce this style of building for all future expansions or renovations. Add this very unique place to your bucket list.

Italian Wine

Yesterday we spoke about White Truffles. What goes great with truffles? Wine of course. Italy has many wine regions. In fact the whole country is divided into wine regions. Everyone drinks and enjoys wine in Italy. Wine Folly lists these regions and the wines that come from each.

Italy-Wine-Map-wine-folly

Everyone has heard of Chianti but Italy produces other great wines. The Brunello is one of the great wines from Italy. It can be expensive but is among the best wines in the world.

Here are some of the wines and regions (see map above) with wines you might have tried:

  1. Valpolicella from Veneto
  2. Super Tuscan, Chianti, Barolo, Brunello and Sangiovese from Tuscany
  3. Orvieto from Umbria
  4. Cabernet Sauvignon from Abruzzo
  5. Chardonnay from Puglia

Chianti is by far the most popular Italian wine. If you choose a Chianti, look for one with a Black Cock on the neck of the bottle. This is the sign of the best Chianti in Italy. Producers  have to follow strict standards to be able to display the black cock.

Have a fun wine tasting party. Select 2 or 3 wines from a region. Cover each bottle and label it A, B, C etc. Have your guests taste each and vote on their favorite. This is a great way to taste related wines blindly and see what you enjoy.
