Italy is full of small mountain top towns (hill towns). These towns were how people protected themselves from invaders. Beach towns had a sister hill-top town to run to. Salento is in Campania Italy. It is very small with a narrow winding road leading up to it. The people looked at us and probably never saw an American before. They were friendly and lived in a paradise town. Away from the normal hustle bustle of bigger cities. There are no tour busses here. If you want to go, you must have a car and make the trek up the mountain. Italy is full of these magnificent towns. Visit as many as you can. They all are different but offer new rewards for the inquisitive traveller. Use your GPS to find the best way to get to these towns.
