The Venice Vaporetti!

What is the Venice Vaporetto? It’s a motor boat (ferry) that takes people from the parking garage, rail stain and airport into Venice. It literally means “water bus” in Italian. About.com has a great article on the fares, schedule and stops for the vaporetti. The fares are usually inexpensive and for one hour. The main route is the Grand Canal. If you are arriving at Venice and want to go to Saint Marks Square, this is the way to do it. You can also walk but the sidewalks in Venice are a maze and you can easily get lost. If you choose to walk, use your smart phone and a GPS map app that can be set for walking.

Tourists often assume they will take a Gondola. These can be very expensive. A Gondola ride is a requirement if you are visiting Venice with a loved one. Negotiate your price before taking it. Many people like to see Bridge of Sighs from a Gondola. Venice is very romantic. Enjoy your visit, eat well, drink some wine and talk with the locals.
